LITIGATION ASSISTANT

Job Description:


A Litigation Assistant is responsible for, but not limited to: 
•  Helping prepare mail and correspondence for the department
•  Serving legal documents:
      – Service of all legal documents to lien claimants, defense attorneys, and Workers Compensation Appeal           Boards
      – Completion of Substitution of Attorney forms and following up with adjusters for signed copies
      – Completion of all declaration of readiness to proceed documents and submitting them to the WCAB            offices
•  Filing department documents on a daily basis
•  Contacting defense attorneys for missing file documents prior to all lien conferences and trials
•  Contacting the Judge’s secretaries to obtain information on upcoming appearances. 

Job Qualifications:


A qualified candidate must: 
•  Experience working as a litigation assistant or claims assistant
•  Knowledge of workers compensation system
•  Know the EAMS system
•  Be able to identify documents to serve as part of discovery
•  Knowledge of filing petitions for sanctions, association of counsel, and petition for contributions a plus but not    required
•  Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Outlook). Minimum of 45 wpm. ·             Ability to independently set priorities, multi-task and work under pressure.
•  Be reliable, dependable and adaptable (Able to work from 8:30am – 5:30pm).
